Warmer temps and the sun’s rays made for a successful family photo shoot with Geraldine and her loved ones in Burlington’s Royal Botanical Gardens. Memories from a beautiful Spring day in the Winter of 2013.
Spring Inside
In the past, when I have photographed families at the Royal Botanical Gardens, I have only used the outdoor grounds and landscaping as backdrops. I have never ventured inside the greenhouses. However, Spring hadn’t quite sprung and Geraldine wanted to get a jump start on a family photo shoot. She wanted to incorporate the bright pinks, blues and purples of the season. The same colours that highlight this family’s fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. This was a brilliant idea because the indoor plants were amazing – gorgeous, contrasting colours that made her family’s images pop!
Spring Into Action
Getting a jump start on Spring was a blessing for me as well! Over the years my style of photography has changed. Even as I look back on these pictures from 2013, I can see a definite difference in the final product. I am proud to learn and grow through the years and while it was only a year and a half ago, I am reminded of how I have changed and how far I have come. By working outside my comfort zone, trying indoor photos instead of the usual outdoor photos, we were able to capture some beautiful images of Geraldine and her family. The bonus? I was able to learn something new, experiment in a new space and try some new photography techniques.
Getting Fresh Air
As I always do, I did venture outside with the whole family for more photos. Geraldine has four gorgeous children, 3 girls and a boy. From my experience with them, I noticed that each child has her or his own personality. Sometimes, you can see where two kids are a lot alike. Both might be quiet and reserved or both extroverts by nature. Two kids might play hockey and the other two like movies and art. Geraldine has been blessed with four kids with four very distinct personalities, all differing from one another. Their interests are different and they are all truly unique.
Everyone’s Included
Geraldine and her husband’s youngest daughter was by far the busiest of the group. She is the youngest and in the toddler phase during this photo shoot. Keeping her attention was a task and a half! I am well versed in handling busy toddlers, so I knew that I needed to take as many pictures of her as I could to ensure at least one of them was a “keeper”. As it turns out, there were many “keepers” in the pile of pictures I took! It’s a good thing too, Geraldine told me their youngest daughter is least represented in their family photos. She is the latest addition to the family and they hadn’t had family photos taken since she arrived. Now, the whole family is properly included in their photo library!
Seeing Green (and pink, and purple, and yellow…)
After a long winter, it’s heartwarming to see Spring colours in bloom. The brilliant colours of the indoor blooms lifted my spirits on an otherwise chilly day. Working with such a lovely family was the icing on the cake!
