Gathering teenage boys for a photo shoot isn’t an easy task, but it’s definitely worth the effort! Karen was able to round up her boys for their family session and she will remember this day forever.
In the Present Moment
During our photo shoot at Adamson Estate in Mississauga, I held my camera toward Karen so she could see how the photos of her sons looked. Karen smiled from ear to ear! She told me that she had skipped a year or two between professional photo sessions and that the boys had grown up so much. At these ages, the boys have their own opinions and have their mind set on what they want to do with their time. Smiling for the camera is not on their list of fun things to do! I understand that 100%. I was there once. Regardless of what I asked them, Karen’s boys were fantastic before, during and after their photo shoot! They stayed in the moment and cooperated well with their parents and with me.
Perfect Posing
Sometimes the poses I put my client in feel funny in the moment – especially when I tell you to “snuggle in”. The camera takes a subject that is 3D and makes it two-dimensional. In order to create that 3D feel in your images, I need to manipulate some posing techniques. I love it when I give directions to my clients to pose a certain and they end up smiling even more because they think it’s hilarious. Cuddles with teenage boys are few and far between, sometimes non-existent. When I gave direction for Karen and her family to “snuggle in” close, they laughed and I was able to get an even better picture out of the group!
Dressed for the Occasion
When clients book a photo session, one of the first things they ask is, “What should I wear?” Sometimes clients already have something in mind. Take Karen, for example. Karen and her family wore black shirts and jeans. Given that her boys are in their teenage or approaching, this was perfect! Boys this age might feel comfortable wearing black and might wear jeans everyday. It’s important that everyone feels comfortable with the whole process. Also, black is a perfect colour to help the whole family stand out against the colours of summer in the background.
Adamson Estate, Mississauga
If you live in the area of Mississauga, you may have been to Adamson Estate for a photo shoot, a wedding or an afternoon walk by the water. It’s a beautiful park with old buildings, benches, well-landscaped gardens and water – lots of great places for photos! I have photographed a few families and couples on the grounds and just love the background options. No photo shoot is the same.
My passion and biggest asset is taking the time to make every client comfortable and relaxed before I even pick up the camera. The result? Photos of you that actually look like you at your best! I can prove to you how much you can enjoy having your picture taken. Lifestyle photography is about the experience that happens to be served up along side of some great photos.
