Family Photographer |Sherry and Family in Hamilton| Need photographer? Will travel

Upon meeting Sherry I found out that she liked my work but, was worried I wouldn’t travel to Hamilton to complete her photo shoot. I was able to put her mind at ease and assure her that I will travel. I know that there are locations near and dear to my clients’ hearts and I’m not turned off in the least by the thought of driving a distance to photo shoots. It gives me the opportunity to listen to an audio book or crank up my music and sing! In all actuality, I think I have travelled to locations in every district of the GTA. Not to mention my longer commutes to Ottawa or New York.

Dundurn Castle
Sherry and her family opted for a photo shoot at one of Hamilton’s most recognizable landmarks, Dundurn Castle. Dundurn is Gaelic for “strong fort” and while the building is referred to as a castle, it was originally the home of one of Canada’s first premiers. The grounds at Dundurn provided many different avenues for great photos and the pillars at the entrance were not only fun to incorporate but, created some unique images.

Preparing for Great Photos
Before I begin a photo shoot, the first thing I do is scope out the premises. I search for areas with the best lighting as well as consider the background. Sherry had a fantastic idea for a background location, however once we looked at the area, realized that the lighting wasn’t working in our favour. Instead of negotiating or compromising location over lighting, I took some photos of Sherry and her family at the location they preferred and then we moved to more locations where the lighting was more prevalent. In the end, it’s always up to my clients which photos are best. I might have my ideas, but you are the person that I am trying to please!

Cooperative Kids
First of all, there is no mistaking who’s children these are! Sherry’s children all, in some way or another, resemble both her and her husband. If it’s their mother’s eyes or their father’s smile, all three kids have been blessed with bits and pieces of their parents’ genetics. Not only physically speaking, but from a personality perspective as well. The whole family was easy to work with and the kids were especially cooperative on this chilly fall day.

Fave Photo of the Day
Perhaps my favourite image of the day has to be when we were able to capture of the whole family lying on their stomachs on the grass. The composition of the faded leaves in the background in contrast with Sherry’s family highlights everyone’s faces and smiles.
