In this wedding, Teghan and Andrew celebrated with a church ceremony at St. Mary’s Church in Kitchener before travelling to Victoria Park for portraits. Despite photographing on a busy weekend afternoon, thoughtful planning, careful positioning, and years of experience allowed us to create intimate wedding photos that showcased the beauty of the park while minimizing distractions. The session included champagne celebrations on the iconic bridge, private handwritten vows beneath the weeping willows, romantic riverside portraits, and creative reflections across the water. The day concluded with an elegant reception in Alma, where open fields and soft twilight created beautiful evening portraits. This wedding demonstrates how professional planning, flexibility, and understanding of light can transform even busy public locations into timeless wedding photography.<\/p>\n

Teghan and Andrew’s Victoria Park wedding photos were my very first at this park and, in fact, at their church as well.<\/p>\n

When we planned to have their photos taken at Victoria Park, I knew we had very little time, but I was excited because I had never photographed there before. Every new location triggers my creativity on another level, so I was really looking forward to it.<\/p>\n

Because their aunt took their engagement photos, I didn’t have the opportunity to work with the couple before their wedding day.<\/p>\n

Although I had met them twice, once at a wedding show and once at our in-person meeting, I was confident that we would create great photos on their wedding day.<\/p>\n

Victoria Park Wedding Photos After a Beautiful Church Ceremony<\/h2>\n

For Teghan and Andrew’s wedding, my coverage started right from their wedding ceremony.<\/p>\n

To have more control over the lighting and the location of the church (which I had not been to before), and to make sure I had some getting-ready-style photos, I arrived much earlier at their wedding ceremony location, St. Mary’s Church in Kitchener.<\/p>\n

The church was locked when I arrived, but through the employee entrance, I was able to enter the main area. It was spectacular\u2014a Roman Catholic church with high ceilings and amazing craftsmanship in the altar area.<\/p>\n

I set up my equipment, and at that time, Andrew and his groomsmen arrived.<\/p>\n

Not being scheduled to cover this part of the preparations, I used this opportunity for more candid photos of their arrival, working on the positioning of their boutonnieres and getting ready for the wedding ceremony.<\/p>\n

Once all the groomsmen were ready, we did some posed images in front of the altar with all the groomsmen, followed by some more individual shots of Andrew with the boys.<\/p>\n

As Teghan was scheduled to arrive, after taking photos of all the details and the interior of the church, I went outside. It was the perfect timing; Teghan arrived, and with the help of her mom, dad, and sister, she exited the limo.<\/p>\n

Not having any specific timeline for this, knowing that I had arrived much earlier, I was able, without any stress or pressure, to capture all these candid moments of Teghan’s arrival in front of the church, as well as photos of her and the bridesmaids, while the rest of the guests were slowly making their way inside the church for their wedding ceremony.<\/p>\n

St. Mary’s Church Wedding Ceremony in Kitchener<\/h3>\n

When it comes to a church wedding, I always suggest having a second photographer for many reasons. Still, my top three are:<\/p>\n

Having one extra photographer allows me to split the coverage between the bride and the groom, and during that time, we can document both sides without losing any of the candid moments.<\/p>\n

I love the perspective of the second photographer and the photos created while the bride is being walked down the aisle with her parents. I always have my second photographer capture the back of the bride’s arrival with her amazing dress while I stand in front of the bride, capturing the groom’s reactions, her arrival, and their parents’ candid reactions.<\/p>\n

The third, and sometimes deal-breaking, reason for having a second photographer at a church wedding ceremony is the restrictions that some churches have when it comes to photography and videography. Some churches are strict, and photographer movement is very limited to one side of the church, so having a second photographer can offer amazing creative coverage from multiple angles, different floors, and candid reactions from the guests while they observe the ceremony\u2014moments that are many times left undocumented.<\/p>\n

St. Mary’s Church Ceremony Before Victoria Park Wedding Photos<\/h3>\n

With that being said, Teghan and Andrew opted out of the second photographer, so I was able to be in multiple locations, covering multiple angles and perspectives to create very creative coverage of their church wedding with only one photographer.<\/p>\n

As Teghan was the last person in their grand entrance for the church ceremony, she showed up at the front door of the church once the ceremony began.<\/p>\n

It was a humid day, so the cold air-conditioned church provided some shelter from the heat while also offering an amazing wedding ceremony for the couple and their family.<\/p>\n

The ceremony lasted about an hour, and I had enough time to capture all the images I had in mind.<\/p>\n

From the second floor of the church, I created some amazing photos using wide-angle lenses, allowing me to capture the exact atmosphere the wedding guests were experiencing.<\/p>\n

As my couple exited the church, the pipe player, dressed in a Scottish wedding kilt, performed a song accompanying their recessional walk.<\/p>\n

The Group Victoria Park Wedding Photos at the Church<\/h3>\n

When we exited the church, Teghan and Andrew planned to capture most of their immediate family photos and other group photos before leaving for their Victoria Park wedding photos.<\/p>\n

As the sun was illuminating the front of the church, I decided to have those photos taken right next to the church in a shaded area.<\/p>\n

That way, I would save the wedding guests from the heat, and the images would be much more settled, with controlled and consistent colours.<\/p>\n

This was the moment when I realized that I needed to wear my glasses to be able to photograph. I was able to see my groups, but once I looked at the screen to check my focus, everything was blurry. Couldn’t believe that I was becoming dependent on my glasses, but I was completely prepared for it. I used my reading glasses and left them sitting at the end of my nose. I was able to pose my groups and review my shots. At that moment, I made a plan to start using progressive glasses from now on for every photo session.<\/p>\n

We had a large list of family members and groups that I needed to photograph, but the location I chose and the rhythm of the photos created a perfect experience, and we photographed all their guests in 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

As we finished the last set of photos, Teghan and Andrew, along with their best man and maid of honour, Teghan’s sister, left. It took me some time to pack my equipment, but I arrived at Victoria Park at the same time as their car, which parked near the entrance of the park.<\/p>\n

The Wedding Photos at Victoria Park in Kitchener<\/h4>\n

I knew that we did not have a photography permit for this park, as it was not needed, but I did not know how busy this park could be.<\/p>\n

At 4 PM, Victoria Park on a weekend was packed, and there were so many people in the park that I did not know how I would work around them to reduce their presence in the background. Obviously, I kept that challenge to myself, and as we were walking toward the first spot that Andrew and Teghan had planned for, I was taking candid photos of their walk.<\/p>\n

Every time I captured photos of the two of them, I paid attention to their poses and emotions while also keeping an eye out for people in the frame. I am fine with unwanted elements as long as they do not overlap with my couple’s figures and can be removed in post-production.<\/p>\n

Teghan and Andrew had two things that they really wanted to do at the park. The first was that they wanted to open champagne on the steel bridge and celebrate with their best man and maid of honour.<\/p>\n

While their best man and maid of honour were opening the champagne bottle and pouring it into glasses, I worked with my couple on the bridge, which was amazingly backlit. We had some people passing by behind them, but it was manageable.<\/p>\n

As we finished this set of photos, Teghan and Andrew wanted to read their personal vows in a more intimate place, perfect for a private moment.<\/p>\n

The Private Wedding Vows by The River<\/h4>\n

Trying to find a location without any people in the background and with plenty of great lighting, I decided to position them under one of the weeping willows next to the river passing through the park.<\/p>\n

That gave me some privacy, a chance for fewer people from the riverside, and perfect background lighting.<\/p>\n

Not wanting to influence any of the moments that could happen while they were reading their personal vows, I positioned the two of them with their witnesses in a perfect spot and gave them the go-ahead.<\/p>\n

It was an emotional, heartwarming moment with a lot of tears, excited looks, and great memories. I was able to capture all of that in an uninterrupted environment, in a place chosen by my couple.<\/p>\n

After their vows, I took some time to photograph them by the river, which offered amazing golden hour light and a perfect background for their photos.<\/p>\n

Knowing that we had 15 minutes left, we started making our way toward the cars.<\/p>\n

Using every single moment, I positioned my couple on the second steel bridge. I photographed them from afar, showcasing the environment and the reflection in the still water of the calm river at this time.<\/p>\n

Once I captured those photos, I came to the bridge and created some more intimate images that were new for my couple.<\/p>\n

Our last set of photos was right by the stairs next to the flower beds. Here, I noticed large clouds arriving, so after finishing these photos, we ended up with their Victoria Park wedding photos.<\/p>\n

Alma Community Centre Reception with a Pipe Band<\/h4>\n

During the planning process, Teghan shared with me that their pipe band would welcome them into the reception hall. As both of them are part of the Fergus Pipe Band, they loved incorporating this into their wedding.<\/p>\n

For some reason, I arrived way later than they did at the community centre, so the moment I entered the reception area, the grand entrance began.<\/p>\n

I was a bit caught off guard, but having had experience for so many years, I was able to capture this candid moment perfectly.<\/p>\n

As my couple sat down and waited for their dinner, I started to explore the area.<\/p>\n

First, I set up my off-camera lighting. I photographed the details of their wedding reception, their wedding ring shots, and went outside to see if there were any nice areas to capture their golden hour sunset photos.<\/p>\n

To my big surprise, right behind the community centre, there was a large field of grass that, with the elevation of the community centre, offered an amazing view and a great opportunity for creative photos.<\/p>\n

Knowing that we had this at our disposal, I went inside and started photographing their reception.<\/p>\n

I was able to capture all the speeches, the performance by Andrew and one member of their pipe band on the pipes, and their first dance.<\/p>\n

Although my coverage had already ended, I wanted to capture some photos of the lively dance floor, energized by The Country Lads band. Afterward, I planned to ask Teghan and Andrew for our final shots\u2014the golden hour images in Alma.<\/p>\n

As we went outside, the sun was gone, and the only thing we had was the brightness and twilight in the sky.<\/p>\n

Golden Hour Photos in Alma<\/h4>\n

Without any interruption or restrictions, we had these giant fields all to ourselves.<\/p>\n

Here, I photographed some of my favourite golden hour photos in the field, with tall grass, trees, and the small city lights in the background.<\/p>\n

I did not ask too much from my couple at this time. I asked them to walk away from me and, following them from behind, create some beautiful photos. Coming back was with more fun images, as they were running back toward me and the rest of their dinner.<\/p>\n

Finishing with these last photos, I wanted to share with future couples that no matter where we end up with our wedding photography coverage, I can create magic in their wedding photos. The only things we need are the two of them: their love for each other and their willingness to have fun. The rest of the magic I can bring and make sure they have memories that will last a lifetime.<\/p>\n
