I was approached by Lindsey, the marketing manager for Bunzl Canada in Burlington, to create a professional yet stylised set of business portraits. The seed was planted after searching on the popular business networking platform, LinkedIn. She had noticed what a difference it made to have a professional photo as your profile picture.<\/p>\n

Lindsey was shocked at the volume of people in upper management roles within various prominent corporations that had personal photos. It might seem like a good idea to have a photo from a wedding or event, but these are best reserved for private social media accounts.<\/p>\n

This little detail took these business portraits for Bunzl Burlington to the next level<\/h4>\n

It can often be a hard sell to try to convince the decision makers in your company to invest in something that could be perceived as cosmetic. The ROI is invaluable though as it makes your workplace stand out from the sea of competition. A great business portrait shouts look at me, I mean business. When you go to a corporate website, they often have a bank of photos of influential employees. This one time shot offers a glimpse of the company\u2019s values and that individual\u2019s personality.<\/p>\n

Once Lindsey had assured the president at Bunzl Burlington of the benefits, and validated the investment, we planned the logistics. We had over 30 employees to photograph, all with tight schedules, so I decided to bring my mobile studio onsite.<\/p>\n

After doing a walk thru of various potential areas I could set up in, I fell in love with the idea of shooting in the warehouse. The simple background served as an identity that was representative of Bunzl and wasn\u2019t too distracting. A lot of people have corporate photos against a studio backdrop but I find they just look so generic. By personalizing your photos with a unique location, you are creating an identity and standing out from your competition. It is also the perfect way to show off the variety of spaces or services available in an indirect manner.<\/p>\n

This company saw the ROI on this set of business portraits<\/h4>\n

I staggered the photoshoot over three days and would spend about 15 minutes with each individual. This allowed enough time to let them relax in front of the camera and find out a bit about them. When someone is familiar with their location, they automatically let some of their guards down. This makes it a lot easier to showcase their personality and capture their spirit in a single image.<\/p>\n

An important detail to make sure that all of the business portraits were united was to keep the lighting uniform. Even though people had different poses and different personalities, the consistent lighting made it easy to identify they were part of the same series of photos.<\/p>\n
