In-house realtor business photos have been increasingly popular over past 2-3 years for my photo studio. The flexibility to use your own house as a huge studio and change outfits as many time as you like have been deal breaker for my clients, especially woman entrepreneurs. Being able to keep doing what they are doing and not loosing time stuck in traffic in house business photos have been so helpful and worth every penny. Although all of my corporate clients need images of themselves in regards to their businesses they are coming to me for different reasons.

Vani was established realtor for Century 21 brokerage in Brampton. She contacted me for her realtor business photos after seeing my work and checking my Brampton Google business page. She was amazed how all my corporate portraits very crisp, sharp and my clients were happy and uplifting, full with energy that she could see through the showcased photos.
What was the problem with her realtor business photos?
Vani wanted to refresh her social media profiles, her business cards and printed signs with a photo of her that will represent her at the current appearance and stage of business. Offering her in-house photo session she was little bit skeptical. Having experience with walk-in studios she was not sure that her house would be good place for those business photos. What equipment will be used? If it’s enough light? There were so many concerns that I could read between lines while talking to her. Assuring her that I will bring all needed equipment and tools she calmed down. “My corporate sessions are taking around two hours”, I said. For few photos two hours?, Vani commented. I assure her that we are not stopping until we have the perfect match of her personality with the photo that I’ll capture.
My working plan while I’m working with corporate
Arriving at the day of the session Vani started to realize that there is more equipment that she has ever seen. Even the place where we did the session was one of her empty rooms that didn’t need it any lighting or props. While setting up the equipment for the session as per the Century 21 outcome specifications I was able to give Vani feedback about her outfits selection. She could choose anything from her entire walking closet and change it if she likes, sweet, right? In meantime she was able to work with her make up and hair while not wasting any time of her day-to-day phone calls and business activities.
I always ask for my clients past photos, marketing material or business cards prior to the session. Especially when I’m taking realtor business photos! I have included a photo of Vani actual business card that she was using in at that moment. The quality of the card made was great, thick and plastic. No often you meet realtor who invest in the quality of their marketing material that much. What stroked me was the actual image of Vani. She was happy, outgoing person with a lot of upbeat personality that I have experience while setting up the on-location studio equipment. On contrary the business card was giving completely different perception for this client. I didn’t wanted to comment about it but set myself on a mission to remove the high invisible wall that people have between them and the photographer especially when come to taking headshots.

We start working. At the beginning I did experiment with my light finding perfect technique and amount of light for Vani’s persona. Each skin and physiognomy are different so what works for one client no necessary works for another. During that time I can see how Vanu slowly started to relax but was not that what I was looking for. Then I ask if her husband who was in the lower part of the hose can join us. Her eyes sparked. I stated to joke with her husband “hiring” him as behind the scene videographer while giving Vani some break and putting her at ease. At this point I noticed that invisible wall between us was gone. Vani was happy, smiley, positive person that I wanted to capture in her portrait. What was even more important she was able to recreate that look on demand. Score!!
Seeing the result of the relaxed atmosphere I send her husband downstairs and in next 10 minutes we capture the images that represents the real personality of Vani. Being able to share with her the proofs onto my camera LCD Vani breath out happy. I know now that I had that I wanted from this realtor business photos of mine. She was so happy with the outcome that made me realize the value of my work.
Does exist formula for great Realtor business photos?
There is not a formula for this kind of work. No photo scenario is same or even similar to Vani’s photos. Each client is unique and brings the value of their own. Maybe I use same equipment, similar backgrounds but the techniques, their faces, their smile and unspoken eye messages are always different and unique.
