Wedding Winners!

As an engaged couple it’s always wise to attend a bridal show before you begin planning your big day. At a bridal show you can compare the best venues, products and services available to you. It takes a lot of time, effort and money for a business to participate in a bridal show, so you are guaranteed to meet only credible service providers. You could even say you’re meeting the crème de la crème in the wedding business. And, if you’re truly lucky, you might even win a complimentary wedding like Kate and Jeff did!

Kate and Jeff were originally planning to get married in 2015. They entered a draw to win a wedding package at the Burlington bridal show that I attended and the only way they could redeem the voucher was to get married in 2014. (No pressure!) So, when they found out they were the lucky winners, they threw themselves head first into planning their big day!

Handmade Flowers Make the Day

For 6 months prior to their wedding, Kate spent hours upon hours hand making the groom’s boutonnières, her own bouquet as well as her bridesmaids’ bouquets. Not to mention, she also made the decorative flowers. By the time their wedding day rolled around, Kate’s hands were tired of winding wire and sculpting paper! The result was gorgeous and accurately represents Kate’s hard work. Personal touches like this make your day that much more special and Kate will never regret the amount of time and work she put into those flowers.

Laugh It Out

Part of my wedding photography package includes me taking pictures of the bride and groom as they’re getting ready for the ceremony. I always start at the groom’s home or hotel room and usually the guys are pretty laid back. Jeff was one of those guys and taking photos of him with his guy friends was easy and full of laughs. Having dealt with many brides over the years, I know that when the door to the bride’s home or hotel room, I could be greeted with an array of different responses. There is a lot of pressure on a bride and usually, depending on the nature of the wedding, she has put a lot of work into this day. Not knowing whether the day is going to run smoothly can wreck havoc on your ability to deal with the final details. Kate had put so much work into this day and she was on edge when I walked in. As soon as I saw her upset, I knew I needed to help her feel comfortable. I made a joke that happened to make her laugh and put a new perspective on her day and from there, it was a breeze. Having someone who has been to many weddings, who isn’t asking for more from the bride, who knows what he is doing, can bring a sense of peace to the process. I’m so happy I was able to help Kate even a little bit with this!

While we worked together by happenstance, I am grateful for the opportunity to meet Kate and Jeff! During their speech they thanked me publicly and said that not only was I a good photographer, but that I was also able to help them let loose and fully enjoy the day. That meant so much to me.
