Having previously shot Stephanie and Constantin’s engagement photos, they were eager to document the next stage of their journey together. They knew they wanted an opulent and classy affair, so Rosewater in Toronto was the perfect fit for their Toronto bridal shower.
Every aspect of Stephanie’s event dripped class and it was evident they had put a lot of time and effort into it. Although it isn’t typical to hire a professional photographer for a bridal shower, it is defiantly becoming a popular request. When investing time and effort into throwing an event, it’s nice to be able to preserve that memory.
We began the day by shooting outside the Rosewater Supper Club whose architecture was reminiscent of the streets of Paris. I positioned my couple in the door of the entrance which provided a natural frame. The columns and ornate stonework highlighted the grandness of the venue.
A stunning, high end Toronto bridal shower that pulled out all the stops
Stephanie’s dress had such intricate detail and she was adjourned with jewels. I love the image where I featured her at the front of the frame looking dreamily off to the side. The focus is automatically drawn to the detailing on her outfit whist still linking Constantin in the background.
Once inside, I featured a beautiful flower wall that allowed staff to change flowers easily depending on the colour theme. That day they had used yellow roses, so the pop of colour worked so well against their silhouette.
One of the requests I’d received was to capture the staircase. Shooting from above, I had the perfect vantage point to create a mildly provocative composition of Stephanie leading Constantin upstairs. The lines of the staircase set up a great base for the bottom layer of my image. Once I added my couple in, the exposed thigh and twist of Stephanie’s open body, in comparison to Constantin’s head on stance, added an emotional connection to the picture.
No shower would be complete without some yummy treats and this famous Toronto cake designer set the bar high. The black lace effect on the cake tied in beautifully with Stephanie’s dress and everything looked mouth-watering. I made sure to get both wide shots of the table and close ups of the individual treats.
Would you be able to eat this if you attended this Toronto bridal shower?
I used a mix of journalistic style coverage as well as composed set ups to maximise our surroundings. By shooting in a journalistic style, I got these fantastic shots with her mother and best friends. Capturing the moment they were laughing or being playful offered a true representation of the day. When looking back at those images, they will instantly smile, remembering what the inside joke had been.
My couple couldn’t be happier with this wonderful collection of memories documenting their upscale Toronto bridal shower. Although it can seem easy to ask someone to just take pictures, it will never replace a professional photographer’s vision. When you have spent so much time and effort, regardless of if it’s a lavish affair or a backyard barbeque, it’s always worth the investment.
