Adamson Estate Proposal with Port Credit Photos

Bradley and Hailey’s Adamson Estate proposal was a carefully planned surprise shared with their closest family and friends. What began as a couples’ photo session turned into an unforgettable engagement celebration overlooking Lake Ontario at one of Mississauga’s most beautiful waterfront locations.

After capturing the proposal and family celebrations at Adamson Estate, we continued with romantic portraits around the property before heading to Port Credit Lighthouse for a completely different golden-hour setting. The combination of two locations, dramatic skies, natural interactions, and creative off-camera lighting allowed me to create a diverse collection of images that captured both the emotion of the surprise and the excitement of their new beginning.

What made this proposal especially meaningful was how much planning went on behind the scenes. Bradley had organized everything with both families, while Hailey believed they were simply meeting for another couples’ photo session.

When Bradley contacted me, he had most of his plans in place and just needed a photographer and videographer to capture his marriage proposal to his fiancée-to-be, Hailey. He was looking for someone very familiar with surprise proposals, especially someone with experience at Adamson Estate in Mississauga.

After we talked, he was excited to hear that I have extensive experience photographing proposals and that I had photographed at Adamson Estate before. I was able to find a videographer for them who would capture cinematic footage of his special moments alongside me. Cameron from BeauFilms was commissioned to work with me on their proposal.

Bradley had organized for their closest friends and family to be there as well. Making sure the setup was perfect, with the large letters MARRY ME and rose petals spread across the area overlooking Lake Ontario, he was all set to go down on one knee.

As the family members waited in a hideout, my couple slowly appeared at the entrance of Adamson Estate. I have photographed many times at this amazing location in Mississauga by the water, so I knew my way around and was able to capture their arrival from different perspectives and angles.

Once Hailey saw the large letters and all the amazing setup, she realized what Bradley had been planning for her.

Now that the surprise had happened, my goal was to capture perfect photos of Bradley going down on one knee and of Hailey’s reaction as he put the ring on her hand.

Surprise Proposal Photography

Engagement Photos After the Proposal

In the background above the lake, the sky was very dramatic, as if the rain would pour at any minute. Yes, we had a weather forecast for some surprising showers, but at the time, I was not worried about it. Instead, I was making sure to capture the moment unfolding before me and using those amazing, dramatic clouds in the sky to create beautiful images.

I was able to document it perfectly as we planned, and the next part of the session was taking photos with all those people who had witnessed the proposal before we continued with the couple’s photos.

Usually, my couples do not bring their families for the surprise proposal. Still, I have photographed proposals in Port Dover and Toronto before, where the closest family members were present, and it was so cute.

Sometimes, people share their surprise proposals with a larger group, as Bianca and Stefan did during their proposal in Oakville, which resembled a proposal-engagement party.

For Bradley and Hailey’s proposal, we started with the entire group of guests, then moved to smaller groups by family, and finished with some cute photos of the little girls surrounding the couple and throwing rose petals in the air over them.

It was a very unique scenario where I was happy to take photos and create a signature for their proposal.

Since Bradley had booked me for two hours, we had enough time to capture their Adamson Estate proposal and all the photos as planned. Once we finished with their family photos, I focused on creating a more romantic atmosphere around the property, utilizing the lakeside of Adamson Estate and some of its lush gardens.

Adamson Estate Proposal with Port Credit Portraits

I made sure most of the images incorporated the location of their proposal, knowing that our next and final location would be Port Credit in Mississauga.

Bradley wanted some golden hour photos, and I suggested the historic landmark in Mississauga, the Port Credit Lighthouse, which had a completely different vibe, and I was looking forward to it.

I was excited to photograph the lighthouse on the bridge, as this would create a perfect backdrop. Since we had worked together before and built a strong bond, I felt confident that we could capture more candid and less posed photos at the Port Credit Lighthouse.

Cameron from BeauFilms was with me, capturing their proposal in a more cinematic style and creating the video that Bradley wanted.

As we arrived at the parking lot by the Port Credit Lighthouse, I noticed the sun slowly setting on the horizon, creating a beautiful scene.

To continue creating dramatic portraits for their Adamson Estate proposal, I used the golden-hour sun to backlight my couple. At the same time, I compensated for the shadows on their faces with my off-camera flash.

Obviously, to avoid people in the frame who were walking onto the bridge, I advised my couple that we would spend some time here to create those perfect Port Credit portraits.

Golden-Hour Photos at Port Credit Lighthouse

The sun was shining right behind the lighthouse, creating an amazing blue sky on the other side of the bridge. Noticing that there were a lot of people walking on the bridge, I moved my couple closer to the railing, and we took some intimate photos with the lake and blue sky in the background. It was a perfect break from the lush greenery with this choice of blue sky and colourful lake view.

As my couple made themselves comfortable working around strangers, I took the last opportunity I had: we had less than 5 minutes to capture the final images for their Adamson Estate proposal.

I went to the other side of the bridge, opposite the lighthouse, ducked down close to one side of the blue railing, and asked my couple to walk toward me.

With that perspective, using a wide-open lens, I created leading lines that guided the observer’s gaze straight into my couple, who were happily walking on the bridge, looking at each other.

I was very happy with the outcome, so after only one try, we completed my idea, and we called it a day, at least for the photography part.

Bradley and Hailey met their friends and family at the scheduled dinner. At the same time, Cameron and I stayed a little bit longer to share our experience from this amazing Adamson Estate proposal.

Why I Recommend Two Locations for a Proposal

When I plan a surprise marriage proposal with one of my clients, I often recommend considering two locations.
Yes, it requires additional planning and travel, but the benefit is a much greater variety of photographs. The proposal itself can remain focused on the moment’s emotion, while the second location gives us more freedom to create romantic engagement portraits afterward.

In Bradley and Hailey’s case, Adamson Estate gave us the perfect setting for the surprise proposal and their family celebration. Port Credit then provided an entirely different environment for golden-hour portraits beside Lake Ontario.
If the couple also decides to change outfits, the second location becomes even more valuable because the final gallery can have two completely different looks.
I don’t charge extra for working at multiple locations, and I don’t count the travel between locations toward my photography coverage. For my couples, this creates more opportunities for photographs without reducing the time available for the actual session.

Tips for Planning an Adamson Estate Proposal

Planning a surprise proposal at Adamson Estate requires more than simply choosing a beautiful location. The timing, lighting, weather, guest coordination, and the couple’s movements all need to be considered before the proposal.
One of the most important things I recommend is having a clear plan for where the proposal will happen and where the photographer will be positioned. The photographer needs to be close enough to capture the reaction but far enough away to keep the surprise natural.

I also recommend thinking beyond the proposal itself. Once the question has been answered and the ring is on, the couple will usually want photographs celebrating the engagement. This is why I like to plan a second location whenever possible.
Adamson Estate provides beautiful scenery around the property, while Port Credit offers a completely different waterfront environment. Moving between the two gives the couple much more variety and allows the photography to tell a complete story rather than documenting only the proposal itself.
