“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” ~ Karl Lagerfeld
Photography is more than a job for me. It’s a way of life. I have been fortunate to create relationships with my clients, expand my knowledge, explore the GTA, and so much more. It’s a fulfilling career and when I’m able to meet up with a client that I photographed just last year, I am grateful for the opportunity to photograph their growing family. I can’t say that I know what goes on in Olena’s household on a daily basis but, if it’s anything like our house, Olena and her husband are busy. Having photographs taken captures their life at this point in time, forever sealing this memory of life with two young boys.
The Beauty of Unionville
Nestled in the outskirts of Markham is the beautifully quaint town of Unionville. Olena and her family enjoy living in this pristine town with picturesque landscaping and parks. This was my second trip directly to Unionville. I have passed by it quite a few times, heading to other photo shoot locations and family get-togethers. Visiting this family friendly town is somewhat of a surreal experience though. Once you’re inside the Unionville border, you forget about the hustle and bustle going on around it – either in the city of Toronto or Unionville’s neighbouring town, Markham.
Busy Kids, Busy Photographer
Photographing two young boys under 5 years old is a task in and of itself. I need to prep myself mentally (and physically!) to maintain their energy level! My secret trick when taking photos of kids as young as Olena’s boys, is to demand very little increments of time from them. A few minutes here and a few minutes there adds up and by the end of the hour, we have a litany of photos to choose from! The other trick is to figure out which child can hold his attention span for the shortest amount of time. I work with that child either within the group or as an individual to take advantage of the time I do have to take a few quality pictures before he loses interest and refuses to look at the camera. I want children to view looking at the camera as a fun thing, not something they hate to do. Working with them slowly, a little bit at a time and keeping poses to a minimum is helpful.
“Taking pictures is savouring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”~ Marc Riboud
My passion and biggest asset is taking the time to make every client comfortable and relaxed before I even pick up the camera. The result? Photos of you that actually look like you at your best! I can prove to you how much you can enjoy having your picture taken. Lifestyle photography is about the experience that happens to be served up along side of some great photos.
