It was by happenstance that we met Shannon and her family. It really is a small world sometimes and our encounter with Shannon proves that theory.
My sister-in-law Jenn, was at her son’s soccer game when they first met on the sidelines. My wife knows Shannon through a couple of mutual friends. And, while my wife and her sister live 200km from each other, all three parties realized their common acquaintances and began talking. How do I fit into all this? I don’t. I’m just along for the ride!
Shannon and her husband Charlie have not had family photos taken in quite some time. It had been a while since they had photos taken of just the two of them as well. But, you would never have known. Shannon and Charlie’s son was a pro at posing and smiling for the camera. He is 6 years old and such a kind and fun-loving kid. His little sister is precious and looks like a little doll, all dressed up. Both kids were easy to work with and the whole shoot went smoothly despite their ages – toddlers and 6 year old kids aren’t always this cooperative!
After we were finished posing and taking photos with the children, Shannon wanted to grab some photos of her and Charlie. Jenn spent time skipping rocks with their kids and playing by the water to keep the kids occupied while mom and dad spent some alone time in front of the lens. The Belleville Waterfront Trail is a great place to take kids for a walk. Watching the water fowl, the ducks and swans, was a treat and helped keep the kids entertained.
Even though she might look doll-like in her little pigtails and stylish-boots, Shannon’s daughter loves to play in the dirt and mud. On this day the weather was very cold but, not quite freezing temperatures. Shannon’s little girl tried to stomp around in a few mud puddles while we were shooting!
Shannon’s entire family was dressed as though they could be featured in a fashion magazine or store catalogue! Shannon has keen eye for fashion and likes the finer things in life. It was evident as soon as they showed up that she was ready for this photo session and knew what she wanted the end-product to look like. Some families come not knowing what to expect and just go with the flow. Shannon was interested in working with me to get the images she wanted as well as the ones I had planned. The photo shoot was a collaboration of minds to get a set of images that will be cherished for years to come.
“To this day, I don’t like people walking on stage not looking good. You have to look good. If you feel special about yourself then you’re going to play special.” – Benny Goodman
