Dorota and Glenn spent a long time carefully planning their Parkwood Estate wedding. They chose The Universal EventSpace by Peter & Paul’s for their reception because they both work there occasionally as bartenders. Their ceremony took place at a local church in Courtice.
A Sun-Kissed Celebration at this Parkwood Estate wedding
Since the wedding was on the other side of the city, Erika, my second photographer, and I made sure to arrive at our getting-ready locations early, ensuring a smooth start to the day. We knew we had to plan for travel time and any surprises that might come up. With a solid plan, we managed to smoothly capture all the getting-ready moments and the church photos.
Capturing Moments at Parkwood Estate
Dorota and Glenn’s wedding party was quite large, which can sometimes pose challenges during the photo session. Coordinating everyone’s attention and ensuring everyone is visible can be a bit tricky. My focus was on ensuring there was enough time at Parkwood Estate, known as one of Toronto’s most prestigious photography locations.
Although we arrived at the estate on time, there was considerable foot traffic due to other events happening at the same time. To optimize our time, I began by photographing Dorota and Glenn in front of the estate with their Rolls Royce. Meanwhile, my second photographer, Erika, worked with the bridal party in the garden near the front entrance.
After completing the shots in front of the estate, we ventured to the courtyard, which offered a breathtaking view. The garden, featuring a central water feature, was a picturesque sight. It’s worth noting that this location has been featured in numerous films, including X-Men, The Umbrella Academy, Billy Madison and Mrs. America.
Nailing the Photography Experience
Before this Parkwood Estate wedding, I searched for images online and imagined that we would have the location to ourselves while photographing the couple. However, I was mistaken. There were over 100 people freely roaming the premises, enjoying the same view as us.
Feeling challenged, I brainstormed various scenarios to capture the couple amidst the crowd. While I was contemplating, Erika began working with Dorota and Glenn. As we adapted our plans on the go, I strategized ways to minimize distractions and focus on the couple’s photos.
Despite the outdoor beauty, we had limited time for indoor photos at this Parkwood Estate Wedding. While the interior was breathtaking, there were constraints imposed by the staff on what we could do. Utilizing the remaining five minutes, we collaborated with the couple to capture some stunning indoor shots.
Rooftop Revelry at Universal EventSpace
Having previously photographed at Universal EventSpace, I felt more at ease. However, aware that multiple weddings were taking place at this Peter & Paul’s venue, I aimed to arrive promptly.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rooftop cocktail hour that Dorota and Glenn arranged for their guests. Capturing the modern and relaxed ambiance of the event was delightful, while Erika focused on documenting the intricate details of the wedding reception setup.
The Power of a Second Photographer
While opting not to hire a second photographer may save you some money, having one can truly transform your wedding photography experience. With a second photographer on-site, you can capture getting-ready photos simultaneously in different locations and perspectives during the ceremony.
Having Erika alongside me was invaluable. While I focused on photographing the couple, she skillfully worked with the bridal party, ensuring every moment was documented. Together, we captured a blend of documentary and traditional images, enriching the overall narrative of the day.
During the cocktail hour, our collaboration continued seamlessly. While I photographed the cocktails, Erika meticulously captured the details and main setups. It was essential for us to document the hard work and planning that the couple put into their special day.
A Fusion of Cultures for this Parkwood Estate Wedding
Weddings that blend the unique cultures of the bride and groom are always unforgettable for us as photographers. Although Dorota and Glenn’s wedding didn’t have a specific heritage theme, the diverse backgrounds of the guests brought varying expectations and celebration styles, creating a wonderful exchange of experiences.
Once the wedding reception began, it was filled with laughter, happiness, delicious food, and dancing. As the night progressed, the atmosphere became even more lively when the Polish-Ghanaian couple adorned their traditional African wedding attire. Their presence infused the dance floor with vibrant energy, inviting guests to join the celebration.
Amidst the joyous festivities, I found myself amid it all, capturing every moment on my knees. Dorota and Glenn, thank you for allowing me to be part of your special day. I eagerly anticipate capturing more cherished memories at your sister’s wedding later this year.
