Newborn photo sessions can be done anywhere, even in the comfort of your home. Check out Emily’s newborn session from her house in Brampton!
Wherever, Whenever
Newborn sessions do not need any major planning. If you plan anything, I suggest comfortable props. I will always bring props, but it’s always nice to have props that are suited to your family and your lifestyle. I have photographed newborns with not only blankets and pillows, but a football helmet or a tutu and everything in between. Emily is a beautiful tutu-wearing newborn that looks gorgeous in pink!
There’s no need to plan a location for your newborn session, it can happen anywhere. Especially in your own home, where you and your baby are most comfortable. Emily’s photo session happened wherever the natural light was most available for us to use. We toured their house in Brampton from the kitchen to the living room to the dining room and stayed close to the window. We followed the lighting and paid close attention to Emily’s sleep patterns. We kept her as comfortable as possible. The proof is in the pudding, as you can see her sleeping in almost every image!
Give Props
Emily’s mom had her photo session props ready and set to go when I arrived. The pink tutu, knitted hat and flower accents give us a sense of Emily and her family. Pink is her colour, it suits her delicate features perfectly. While mom was changing clothes and preparing Emily’s props, I took it upon myself to take photos of the nursery. Emily’s family put a lot of work into her nursery. It’s the perfect oasis! Years down the road when Emily’s own sense of style has developed and she wants to change her room to be more teenage-like, she and her parents can look back at these photos and reminisce about this time.
Don’t Go Anywhere Mom!
Newborn photos are hard to pull-off without mom’s comforting hand and snuggle near by. Often times I use parents to hold their baby for up-close photos. Taking a photo of mom’s fingers holding baby’s hands gives us perspective on the delicate life I’m photographing and gives us comfort that the baby is being supported and cared for. Showing mom’s face when she’s bent over her baby and smiling from ear to ear gives us peace and calm. Everything is right in the world when mom and baby are together. Emily loves hearing her mama’s voice and responded to each sound her mom made, even at 12 days old!
I loved working with Emily and her mom. I loved using props that were new to me and getting inspired by a client! The whole experience was a win-win and I look forward to working with Emily and her family again. I can’t wait to see how much she’s grown!
My passion and biggest asset is taking the time to make every client comfortable and relaxed before I even pick up the camera. The result? Photos of you that actually look like you at your best! I can prove to you how much you can enjoy having your picture taken. Lifestyle photography is about the experience that happens to be served up along side of some great photos.
